Mohr Island Anchorage
- Location: Ottawa River
- Lat / Lon: N 45° 31.143' / W 076° 08.963'
- Depth: 10 feet
- Description:
With a muddy bottom and great shelter from the prevailing winds, this spot is regarded by many as being the premier anchorage on this body of water. The strategically located anchorage can accommodate a dozen or more boats and is fitted with mooring buoys. While there is usually plenty of room on weekdays, it can become fairly crowded on weekends. However, you can also easily beach anywhere on the south and west shores, depending on the prevailing wind. It is also important to note that Mohr Island can become very crowded with mosquitoes shortly after sunset. There are few signs of them during the day, but the minute the sun goes down, insect screens become indispensable. Some sailors have theorized that Mohr Island is the breeding ground for half the mosquitoes of North America.
