Mangrove Point
- Location: Bight of Abaco
- Lat / Lon: N 26° 24.670' / W 077° 17.878'
- Depth: 6 feet
- Description:
This anchorage is in the Abaco Marls National Reserve. You likely will not see anyone else out here. This is a shoal draft area. We saw less than 1.7 MLW in this anchorage area. And the closer you come to the mangroves the shallower it gets. Holding is in rocky marl covered by some sand. Look for what looks like sandy areas. Exploration with a dinghy becomes difficult in the mangroves except at high water times. Recommend a kayak or paddleboard. Cell service is marginal and slow but usable. We had signals with both ALiV and BTC. There's protection for easterly component winds. We have noticed that swell in the Bight of Abaco doesn't always match wind and seems to travel over long distances. You may be rocked side to side. There is no current so you will point into the wind.
