Bay Shore, NY
On the mainland the big, bustling town of Bay Shore is the shopping and trading center for the surrounding area. It has all the necessary components of a good port of call: ample yacht services, good repair installations, a town pier, a yacht club, waterfront restaurants and hotels, and a well-stocked shopping center within walking range of the harbor.
Bay Shore’s artificial canals are lined with handsome homes and two main boating areas, Watchogue Creek and Penataquit Creek, where marinas are plentiful. While not all marinas can handle transient boats, most will try. Great Cove and the surrounding creeks are well protected. Marinas on the harbor offer everything from charts to electronic repair and activity is constant, with ferries running to Fire Island, fishermen coming and going, diners tying up to restaurants and sightseers walking along shore.
