Nice quiet area located in the downtown. The fixed face dock is easily approachable and appears weathered so no bare feet but appeared to be quite stable. Nice boardwalk through the area for your enjoyment.
There are not a lot of open businesses to frequent but there is a nice hardware store, barber shop, Mexican restaurant/ store, and a visitor center and a nature center. 30 and 50 amp power. Very relaxing and laid back surroundings.

Not counting Manteo, this was our first stop on the Albemarle Sound Loop. The face dock was in good condition with cleats….we love cleats! With our width (14.8) we wouldn't have fit into the slips. We arrived on a Saturday, so town offices were closed. There was a number to call to get the bathroom/shower code, but it went to a fax machine. We didn't use the electric or water, but we took advantage of the pump out and it worked great. Best of all, the first two nights of dockage is free; you just pay for electric if you use it ($3 per night)! Columbia is a sleepy town, with only two restaurants now, one Mexican and another sandwich/pizza place. We walked the boardwalk interpretive trail and to the Food Lion; we also stopped at the Inner Banks Mercantile where we purchased a rug and a pair of earrings. We stayed two nights and waited out some wind.

This is a fabulous opportunity to get "Off the Beaten Path".
The ride up the Scuppernong River is a joy and the town offers up to three nights of free dockage with 50A shore power for $3 per night.
The down is a sleepy town, but there is a Food Lion within a miles hike. Don't miss the Inner Banks Mercantile, and the Mexican Restaurant.
