Very protected within horse shoe type bay. Sand spit protects from wakes. Great holding. One farm house, otherwise some fields and wooded vegetation. No other boats when we were there. Occasional small craft fishing vessels buzzing around, but no Wake activity noted. Lovely scenic spot with a resident bald eagle thrown in. If it isn't rated, there is none...we don't have a pet...

What a nice anchorage! Tucked away off a little creek off Choptank River, it is protected on three sides from wind. Very little current. Some wake from mostly small fishing boats going in and out of La Trappe Creek. Large area can accommodate at least 8 boats; there were 3 of us when I was there. I anchored in about 8 feet of water and used just 35 feet of rode with very good holding. The place was very quiet at night.

The main protection from La Trappe Creek and the Choptank River is a sand spit with some vegetation. As others have reported, it has a bunch of No Trespassing signs. I suspect the signs were put up to prevent weekend daytrippers from using the beach and leaving their trash. There were no signs on the far end of the spit so that's where I took my pups by dinghy to do their business and run around a bit. (Please folks, always clean up after your dog!) Since I'm not sure whether my access was actually allowed, I gave access just 3 stars; it was easy enough to dinghy over to.

I would definitely recommend this spot and come here again.

Scouting Report – Leave the Choptank main channel between Red "18" and Green "19 and head directly for La Trappe Creek Green "1". There is currently a single, poorly oriented day board mounted on a large Cylindrical Structure. You should be able to see La Trappe Red "2" on a similar structure about 0.2 miles further up the creek. Expect a minimum of 9 feet mlw water depth at the entrance but make sure to follow the depth contours as you move between G-1 and R-2. Best depth is not a straight shot from mark to mark. There is a minimum of 9 feet mlw in the channel and as you turn into the well protected anchorage. Depth drops to 8 feet at the anchorage icon. Holding is reported to be good. There is room for four to six 40 foot boats with plenty of swing room. Wind protection is good, but the lower part of the anchorage is open to the wind from most directions. To get more protection from the wind (and perhaps from other boats at anchor) continue up the spur off La Trappe Creek for as much as a third of a mile with good water and better wind protection. Protection from waves and wakes is excellent in all directions. There is no current to speak of running through the anchorage. The water is clear and, in season, swimming would be welcomed. We scouted the anchorage at the end of April and there were no crab pots in the area. There is no shore access on the sandy spit protecting the anchorage to the south: the shore is posted with several "No Trespassing" signs. Shore access to small beaches is either to the east or across La Trappe Creek to the south. Cell reception is good for all three major carriers. There is no nearby shopping. This anchorage checks all the boxes and we will be back to anchor here in the future.

This was a wonderful anchorage. It is very busy on the weekend but during the week, it is very quiet. The sandy point is excellent for walking the dog. It is also a relatively short dinghy ride up the river for a day trip into Cambridge. One of the best anchorages so far.
