We needed a safe and secure spot to anchor out below Bobby's Fish Camp and before we got to Mobile. I'd planned to go further downriver, but two short but fierce rain squalls, several barges and a bunch of fishing boats all slowed me down.
This is a safe anchorage out of the river. We pulled in about 100 to 150 yards, and anchored on one side in about 15 feet of water. I tossed out a stern anchor, just to make sure we did not pivot out and block the way for the fishermen who use this cutoff.
Safe and secure all night, we did not drag and the anchor came up clean.
cellservice available for Verizon and T-Mobile, though weak.
The only downside – about a gajillion mayflies took up residence all over the outside of the boat.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Depth is good, we never saw less than 12 feet side to side. We had 5 boats in that night and room for more. Plenty wide, anchor off to the starboard side, and put out a stern anchor, local fishermen will blast by you several times in the evening and morning. Other than that, a nice quiet anchorage with plenty of depth, but use a trip line on your anchor, we had stuck anchors on 2 of our boats which we got free eventually, but were almost lost.

Deep water at entrance (30 ft), we anchored in 12-15 feet of water about 75 yards into cut-off. Current kept us steady all night. Room for several boats. I did not use a stern anchor and was fine, but you obviously could. This seems like a reliable anchorage!

Two- to three-bars of AT&T coverage and good enough WiFi for us to do our jobs. There are a lot of flying insects during in every season except winter. We know people who've taken their dogs ashore, but they lost boots and shoes in the knee-deep mud and would likely not recommend this anchorage as one that is pet friendly. You are well protected from wakes caused by barges and boats on the main river, but you'll be rocked by smaller boats as they pass on the cutoff. Easy in and easy out, good hold, very little mud on the anchor.
