Easy to enter and exit and close to Bevill Lock. Room for many boats. Decent T-Mobile cell service. Pickensville Recreation Area is a nice place to stretch your legs and take pets—next to the boat launch there is a wall to tie up to with 2-3' of water and a few rings and small cleats.

Plenty of water on the turn up and follow the riverbed a little ways in. Then we moved closer to shore to get into shallower water. Anchored in about 12 feet of water. A sailboat followed us in and anchored nearby. There is some highway noise but a small price for such a nice anchorage.

Great holding for the anchor. Had to do some cleaning after the anchor was up! You definitely know there is civilization near with planes, trains, and automobiles! Nice area with lots of white pelicans!

Daylight tranquility on a nice weekend might be problematic but we assume that things will quiet down at dusk. You can continue on up the cutoff for another half mile and have a larger anchorage area with room for six or more boats with non-overlapping swing areas. There is no current that we could see running through the cutoff. Shore access is excellent at the Pickensville ramp you passed on entrance with bathrooms and trash cans in evidence. Cell coverage was 2 bars ATT and Verizon, one bar T-Mobile.

Got a visit from some locals that offered to take us to town for provisions. They also informed us that the occasional tow with a barge comes in there so be mindful of that when you drop the hook.
