Alabaster Bay

Description:
The south end Alabaster Bay is a pretty anchorage fringed with a sandy beach. In settled conditions there is good protection from east northeast to south and decent holding if one can avoid the patches of grass and marl that dot the bottom. Once the winds approach 20 knots, however, the bay will become rolly regardless of the direction. In a west or north wind the anchorage will be choppy even in light winds, and it will become progressively rougher as the winds climb beyond 15 knots. The Governor’s Harbour Airport is in the north part of the bay but it is not possible to walk directly to the airport from the bay as it is surrounded by a chain link fence. If you want to go to the airport it is easier to go ashore at the beach facing the anchorage and walking the ~1.50 miles to the airport.

This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Eleuthera. Anchor in sand in 5-10 foot depths anywhere near Cocodimama resort. Beware there are some cables buried in this area. A trip to the old navy base is in order. It's an interesting piece of history and the beach on this side is beautiful as well.

Alabaster is good in North to SE winds. In SSE winds the swell begins to wrap around the point and you may experience some rolling. The anchorage is not safe in westerlies. Cell service is very good with ALiV and BTC
