Review for Sandy Point (Outside)

Just avoid the area in front of the larger government dock. The dock just south of it is used to transport Disney workers so suggest anchoring South of it as well. We anchored about .2nm SE of the WG anchor mark. Explorer Charts are a bit conservative and you'll likely be able to get a bit closer to shore than depths indicated. The bottom is sand and Marl, but you should be able to get a good set.
We rode out 4 days here with winds from almost every direction, including part of a day of strong southerlies with sustained 20knots. Although bumpy, we found waves and wind direction were similar, so motion on a catamaran was fine. We did notice some wraparound from NE and SE winds where swell may not align perfectly with wind causing more rocking side to side.
As for the settlement, the beach is beautiful. You can land your dinghy on any part of the sandy beach. Walking up the government dock road you will find two small but we'll stocked grocery stores. Nancy's is the only restaurant in town. It's located on the beach between the two docks. Look for kayaks on the beach and you'll find Nancy's. There is no menu. Suggest calling or stopping in to see what she has or can make. The whole fried snapper was delicious. Shelling on the beach is excellent and snorkeling at Rocky Point at the southern tip is fantastic. This is a great stopover point, especially if winds are east.
