Wide open, but no problem with NE wind & waves

We nosed right up to Peterson Key Bank and spent a quiet, restful night with 15 kt NE winds. The bank and its grassbeds kept the wave action suppressed despite the long fetch. We had a straight shot downwind the next morning to pass under the Channel Five bridge to make the next leg (to Marathon) down Hawk Channel.

Didn't see much of an opportunity for anything of interest ashore, and so we didn't even try.

We anchored in the north end closer to the mangroves.

Anchorage is protected from east winds, which we had. Typical Florida keys bottom, grass and sandy mud. We found a sandy spot and the anchor held fine in 10 - 15 mph E winds. Didn't launch the dinghy, so can't comment on going ashore. But we had a pleasant overnight stay.

Very nice anchorage near overseas highway. Residential area with a few small resorts. Didn’t try to go to shore so take my low rating with a grain of salt for pets and shore acess.

Clear water, big anchorage, one of our out of the way best places to enjoy anchored out. Of course not good when wind is out of North
