Free Dock Review for Peoria City Dock

What to expect - the docks look like they've not been maintained by the city in quite some time. They're abandoned and are heavily used by birds and there's poop everywhere. However, you can still use them. We are a 48' trawler with 5.5' draft. There was one spot on the southern set of docks that could fit us and we took it. We were the only boat there. Plenty of water. Know there are NO amenities here - no bathrooms, trash removal, security, power, or water. What you do get is access to some great museums, restaurants and bars all within a few blocks. Lots of folks walking along the river and the public can access the docks. Two other boats joined us and we all spent 2-3 nights without any issue and for FREE. Favorite places are the Caterpillar Museum right across the street; the River Museum and Planetarium right across the street; Ardor's Restaurant for the most amazing breakfast and pastries ever; the Rhythm Cafe for jazz and dinner. Lots of fun things to do right there! I would go back.

Marina Review for Mohawk Harbor Marina

Fantastic marina! It is right in the middle of a mixed-use development that's only a handful of years old and very well taken care of...and right next door to a casino! Boating: the entrance is very narrow but plenty of water. It looks scary but it really isn't. As you can see from other posts, 76' boats make it into the marina with no sweat. The boat next to us when we stayed was a 78' vessel! The docks are awesome - floating, wide, like new, excellent 50 amp, great water. There are bathrooms but no showers or laundry. Brian Donovan, the marina staff person, was excellent at helping us tie and power up. Also, he was born and raised in Schenectady and can tell you where to go for everything you want! He recommended a local brewery called Frog Alley. We walked one mile to the Frog Alley Brewery in the Stockade (historic) district - past homes that are some 300 years old. Very cool! There is a river front walk, too. We wound up our day at Druther's Brewery right at the marina. Food and drink were very good. Totally worth a stop to Mohawk Harbor Marina!

Loved our stay at Shadows Marina! The docks are first class; the power really good; fresh water excellent. Two things really make this marina - 1) Capt. Keith the dock master! What a guy! So helpful and expedient in helping us dock; will pick breakfast up for you if you'd like (as long as it's where he's getting his breakfast ;) - spins a great yarn and lots of laughs. 2) the Shadows restaurant is excellent! The hilltop view of the Hudson is fabulous as is the decor. The food is as good as the view! Will definitely stop here again!

Marina Review for Wareham Harbormaster / Onset Town Pier

We decided last minute to pull into Onset Harbor and check out the tiny town of Wareham. The Harbormaster was very friendly and accommodating - we had made a reservation thru Dockwa but had not yet received a confirmation. The free launch picked us up and was very skillful handling the launch and a super nice guy. The town is small yet has paces to go for drinks and dinner. It would also be a great town to provision as hardware store and grocery stores are less than a mile from the Onset Harbor moorings. There is a small island in the middle of the Harbor that the public can go to and lots of beach surrounding the Harbor. We stayed one night as we were passing through. As the whole harbor is no wake, so you can swim off your boat while moored. They have a pump-out boat, too. Great for a stopover!

Marina Review for Manteo Waterfront Marina

We just loved this location! The marina - has fixed docks; staff is present off-season on the weekends - full time in the peak season; if you wish to pump out off-season you'll need to do it when staff are there. No issue at all with the docks being fixed as there is no tide. Did not use the amenities as we had no need to. The marina is right in the town of Manteo on Roanoke Island and is charming! We really loved it! The town is great for shops and restaurants; a waterfront dock over a mile long; lovely parks; movie theater, etc. The island has lots to offer from reprovisioning, cycling paths, walking, the Island Farm is a must visit along with the Lost Colony National Historic Site. Two thumbs up for sure!

Marina Review for Alligator River Marina

Ducked in here for the night as our plans for anchoring were foiled due to high winds. We were concerned about depth on approach but was assured by Marina that they dredge regularly and to stay in the middle of the channel. We draw 5’ 8”; came in at low tide; and had no problem. Lowest reading on depth sounder was 5.5’ but we never bumped or turned up bottom. For this we are very happy! No water dockside as the spigot is broken. Did not use facilities. Husband had a couple of hot dogs from the cafe and they were delish!
