Great free dock. Dock is secure and sound. Bar and grill short walk away.
Caution: There is a submerged piling in the water next to the 3rd piling from the bridge side.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Great well constructed easy in/off dock for waiting overnight on the lock. 48 hour limit. Nice walking paths. Town of Chesapeake is walking distance with various restaurants and stores. There's a Dairy Queen!! That's reason enough to stop!

Stopped here for one night on my way south during the busy southern migration season. It's the dock right after the drawbridge that's raised with the operation of the nearby lock. (Dock #1 is across the river, before the bridge when heading south.)
The dock was nearly full when I arrived at noon. This is a fixed dock with pilings. There's little or no tide. There's some car noise from the bridge, as well as the bell ringing and horn blaring when the bridge goes up. The bridge does not seem to operate at night, although it did let a work boat through at 5 AM. Other than that, there's nature noise -- mostly chirping birds. There's a museum on the grounds that covers the Revolutionary War History of the battle of Great Bridge. I'm not sure if it's worth the $8 fee, but it was interesting and I like to contribute when I'm getting a free overnight stay. (Also, it was air conditioned and had clean restrooms.) The best feature of this stop was the extensive wooded trail system alongside the river. It was a real pleasure to take my pups for a walk and let them run a bit with no one else around. (Please clean up after your dogs, folks.) There's a supermarket and numerous restaurants within walking distance. A great stop and, if weather wasn't forcing me to keep moving, I'd definitely stay a second night. Highly recommended if you're going this way.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Nice little place to stay a night or two. if you have a 2"x6"x10' that you use for locks, use it in front of your fender again. the pillar is far away and small fender won't do the job. like others comments, grocerie, restaurent, kids playground are all at a walking distance.

This is a great little free stop-over. A little bridge/traffic noise, but we're all by ourselves on the dock. Dock is in good condition right off of the park & museum. The signs say that it's free for up to 48 hours. We probably won't venture far tonight, except to walk our pet coati.

Dock is in excellent condition. Depth dockside is 11 feet. Stay is marked as being 48 hours. Excellent location with grocery store less than a mile away across the bridge. Great walking paths and a museum thrown in as well. Room for six to eight well tied boats on a 400 foot long dock.

We always stop here on our way north or south. The docks are free for 24 hours and they are sturdy. The docks are part of a park and there are extensive nature trails you need to be sure to take. Closer to the bridge, there's a small memorial park honoring one of the revolutionary war battles.
On certain days of the week during summer (it varies) they may have a band playing with food wagons that can be fun.
The docks are fixed with pilings so be sure to hang your fenders horizontally. If there are other boats there, you will usually have help but with no current and good wind protection, it's not a problem to dock without help. Please be courteous and group boats with 10 ft or so of space between them so more boats can use this great facility.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Free 48 hour county courtesy dock. Part of Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways Historic Park, managed by Chesapeake, VA Parks and Rec. Fixed docks can handle about 4 – 5 boats if people dock properly and assist others coming in by moving. The 48 hour rule is strictly enforced by some park rangers. Originally it was a 24 hour limit so ignore that bit if you see older reviews. No utilities but walk/bike to grocery store and restaurants. The park is steadily growing with more walks, history markers and visitor center.

Great stop. Excellent dock, very protected and it's free. Propane fills at the Great Bridge Service center about 1/4 mile walk. Also groceries and restaurants. Always stop here to get ready for the offshore hop to NY or on the way south to restock fresh groceries.

For a Free Dock this is a great spot. Docks are in good shape, easy on, easy off. A short walking path with signage discusses the first victory in the revolutionary war that took place here. A museum about the battle and ICW is scheduled to open soon. Great Bridge shopping center is only 0.4 miles with many shops, including a Kroger for groceries. On the way you will pass a Taco Bell, KFC, and Dairy Queen.

There is one long face dock with enough room for 4 to 6 boats depending upon how close together they moor. The dock is located next to a park where you can walk your dog or just have a relaxing walk. There are no services here, just a dock but it's in excellent shape.
