Nav Alert comment on AL: Tombigbee River, Demopolis Lock, Test Buoy
Comment by: Ro and Shorty on Jul 4, 2021
Vessel Type: Power

Draft: 4.5'Went past test buoy 4pm on sunny day. Can't say anything about radar only visual observation. It appeared to be larger than normal and a little brighter green (I was hoping for lime green) but was floating crooked. That might be because it is a test, I don't know. Is there any protection against bird poop? Sometimes that acts as camouflage. Are those reflectors or solar panels? Either is a good idea. Thanks for trying to improve design and asking my opinion. Not a fancy marina, but sturdy docks and friendly helpful staff. Easy approach if you pay attention. Neighboring boaters have always lended a hand. Good, restful stop.

We arrived on a day that turned far windier than expected. Sean and his staff did an excellent job helping getting us secure. He is a very wise mariner. Docks in process of being improved, stable for walking. Town is lovely, be sure to have cream brûlée at R Bistro. Cab driver was single person chamber of commerce. Navigation clue: approaching from the water it is difficult to see Fly Creek. The creek goes through the middle of the forest of sailboats, just look for all the masts. Channel is apparent as you approach. There are empty posts out in mobile bay. They are not the channel, they are for boat races.
Worth a stop, watch the tides and the depth.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer
