This area features several spoli islands, great anchorages, and many marine services. This stretch passes the well-marked Ft. Pierce Inlet. You may see rays, dolphin and sea turtles along this section of the Indian River.
At the St. Lucie River, boaters can continue south on the intracoastal waterway, or take the St. Lucie River to the Okeechobee Waterway.

Boating Destinations near the Florida ICW: Vero Beach to St. Lucie Inlet, FL
Fort Pierce was originally founded as a military supply depot during the Second Seminole War. Today Fort Pierce is the center of the Indian River citrus industry. Just along the Fort Pierce Inlet north jetty is Fort Pierce Inlet State Park, featuring a beautiful beach with swimming, surfing and picnicking. The park also has hiking and biking trails and visitors can rent kayaks and paddleboards to explore the nearby mangroves.
North of Fort Pierce Inlet State Park at 3300 N. Hwy. A1A is the U.S. Navy SEAL museum (772-595-5845), honoring the history and contributions of the Navy SEALs through exhibits on training, equipment and missions. (Transportation required.)
The downtown area features a variety of shops, restaurants and art galleries. Visitors can also take a walking tour of the historic buildings and murals, or head south to Heathcote Botanical Gardens, featuring a variety of plants from around the world including a Japanese garden, a herb garden and a cactus and succulent garden at 210 Savannah Rd. (772-464-4672).
