- Description:
Marking this spot is an estimate - it is just above the 78SM mark. This is just above the where the channel narrows to the west and leaves shallower water, outside of the channel, to the east. The southern end is deeper than the northern end. We anchored about 50 feet offshore and with low wind there were no challenges staying away from shore due to current. If there is wind, bow and stern anchors are definitely recommended. Depths ranged from 6-8 feet. The water was lower at this time so the east shore was muddy, but there was a sandy area on the west side for taking the dogs off board for a break. The east side would be sandy if the water level were higher. It is important to stay as far from the channel as possible due to heavy tug/barge traffic, but neither the noise nor the minimal wakes from them were bothersome.
