This is very much more a mooring field than an anchorage. Space for using your own hook is significantly constrained. Open mooring balls can be hard to come by, particularly when considering that for any vessel drawing 4 feet or more, sure passage in and out of the harbour is limited to the two hours before and after high tide. Temporarily anchoring to either side of the outside of the harbor is the simple solution to timing the tide. The wise cruiser will send someone in on a dinghy to hold a ball until sufficient depth to enter is available.

Once inside, the high walls offer nearly 360° protection from the wind. The is very little surge that makes it in from the pass.

Pete's Pub is a well-known landmark offering good food and drink. The beach on the other side is stunning; the view from the ruins of the old lighthous is well worth the short walk up a hog-trail of a path to get there. Spend some time in the gallery/store to read up on the area's history and to see some marvelous bronze sculptures by Pete, his famous father, and his quite-talented son. Our favorites were the bronze turtles married to driftwood.

Entrance channel is marked by 2 small red floating balls and a faded green float. Once past the green, aim toward new, large yellow house. Pelican Point tides appeared spot on. At 15 mins before high tide (2.6' predicted), the most shallow we recorded was 6.5'. Moorings appeared quite robust. Had a slight surge at high tide but not uncomfortable. Tons of turtles. Pete's Pub is iconic beach bar, with delicious seafood, not to be missed, but take bug spray if light wind.

Basically there is nowhere to anchor but Pete's Pub has approx. 15 mooring balls @$30/night. Pay at the bar.
Delightful setting, with casual, but not inexpensive, beach bar set on a sand beach with good dinghy access.
The harbour approach through a clearly marked channel is shallow with 4' at MLW and 7'+ at high tide (soft bottom). Inside gives 10-13' at the moorings. A previous AC reviewer thought the tides were 2 hrs before Pelican Harbour. We found they matched Pelican almost exactly. 1/4 mile hike to the lighthouse ruins through dense brush gives a lovely view or you can walk 200 ft up the boardwalk behind the pub to see the NE Providence channel. Lots of turtles in harbour. Be sure to look through the gallery museum to get a sense of the history of Pete's father who started the place as an art foundry decades ago. Pete subsequently started the pub and is now the artist in residence while his son runs the pub. The vibe is very laid back and the fresh fish is excellent. If you are lucky you can get a foundry tour where they make beautiful & intricate lost wax bronze sculptures.
Definitely worth the wait for the tide.

Harbour is mostly moorings, little if any room to anchor. Very shallow (3.5 feet mean low water) entrance, but deep inside. Many turtles can be seen here. Pay for moorings at Pete's Pub. Beautiful location, but it can be buggy at times.
