If coming from the north, respect the tail off the south end of Kitchel Key as it extends out a good 300 yards from land going to the south. Run up to the charted deeper water in no less than 10' of water MLW to the anchorage icon and beyond for. We anchored in 13' of water MLW about 0.2 miles north of the anchorage icon with good swing room and good surprisingly good protection from ICW wakes and waves. This is a tidal anchorage and there is a 2 mph+ current running through the anchorage when the tide is in full flow. Be prepared to swing with the tide. Excellent holding in sand: once set the anchor did not budge with the changing tide. We set the anchor and it did not budge although we swung with the tide. The anchor came up with no mud but it took us 15 minutes to get rid of the vegetation that had attached itself to the chain in the current. It looks like you can enter the anchorage from the north between Green "3" and Red "2" in a charted six feet of water MLW, but we did not try this. Anchorage is open on the NW/SE axis but is well protected from other wind directions. Fair cell service on ATT, good service on Verizon and T-Mobile. No shore access and there is a mangrove smell at low tide if the winds are from the right direction. An excellent jump off spot going south to the keys. Indian Key, at the channel to Everglades City, is about 75 miles to the south.

Shallows to the west stopped most all wave action, the island to the east protected from the channel. Some wake from the ICW to the north, but nothing to really disturb. Lot of birds around, some smaller islands to explore around. We didn't find any that would warrant a walk ashore. Great jump off point to Naples or Key West if needed.

Holding and water depth are good and surprisingly well protected for the nearby ICW. Great place to rest after transitting the miserable mile.

Access is as shown from the south. Came and went at low and high tides and depth showed very consistent with charting. Had the place completely to myself in the height of the season. Had northerly to northeasterly winds 10-15 kts and was smooth as could be.
