  A return visit in February 2021 to Lignumvitae Key (last visit was December 2015) found 5 mooring balls. We did not dive the ball we tied up to do to poor visibility, but the surface ball and lines looked new and had no significant growth on it. We sat very well for 4 nights in varying wind directions of 10-15 knots. A Valentine's Day visit to the island was met by a wonderful Park Officer, who gave us a wonderful tour of many of the trails. Note that do to COVID the house museum is currently closed and tours are at officers discretion with no mixed groups. Also, the main dock and kayak docks are closed. There is a small dinghy dock. We were fortunate that we had the island to ourselves! We kayaked around the island. It's about 3.5 miles around and very shallow in certain areas. Great areas to see birds, juvenile sharks, stingrays, crabs, live shells, etc. clear water in the shallows. There are some very shallow sandy areas close to the shore near the moorings if you want to swim and relax. The shoreline along the moorings is all exposed coral reef. You are not permitted on shore in this area. There was good cell service for Verizon and GoogleFi. No WiFi seen even with Mikrotik extender. During our 4 days there were several day boats and on two nights 1-2 other boats. You can stay on these moorings for free up to 1 week.   NOTE: Per Florida Statute 327.4109

  The owner or operator of a vessel or floating structure may not anchor or moor such that the nearest approach of the anchored or moored vessel or floating structure is:

  1. Within 150 feet of any marina, boat ramp, boatyard, or other vessel launching or loading facility;
  2. Within 300 feet of a superyacht repair facility. For purposes of this subparagraph, the term "superyacht repair facility" means a facility that services or repairs a yacht with a water line of 120 feet or more in length; or
  3. Within 100 feet outward from the marked boundary of a public mooring field or a lesser distance if approved by the commission upon request of a local government within which the mooring field is located. The commission may adopt rules to implement this subparagraph.
