Rick, the dockmaster was very helpful. We had a transmission issue and Rick was extremely accommodating as far as adjusting our arrival date (as we had delays) and working with us on a great rate since we were stuck there unintentionally for weeks. They were very sympathetic to our frustrating situation with the delay we had. There is a water taxi that will take you over to Portsmouth ($2 each way exact change cash only) and there are a host of great restaurants on Granby street across the river) Check out Freemasons Abbey restaurant; a great restaurant in an old church with fantastic food. There is also a score of restaurants within walking distance of the marina.

We draw 5'7" and had plenty of water all the way in. Scott, the dockmaster was extremely helpful. When we called him outside the channel at R20, he had already been following us on AIS. He was there waiting for us at the dock and it was nice to have an ex yacht skipper handling our lines. The basin inside the marina is huge and maneuvering was easy. The basin is protected and calm. There is a pool and hot tub in the marina and bicycles are free to use. We did see a kayak rack but never asked if they were also free. The marina restaurant was outstanding! Some of the best food we have had. This marina is an outstanding stop!

Anchorage Review for Alligator River - Newport News Point

There is plenty of room in this anchorage and it is easy to go far enough in so you don't feel any ICW wake. There were some hunters out on the water at sunup shooting fowl. Other than that it was a very peaceful anchorage.
