Choptank River, MD

The Choptank River has been immortalized in the works of John Barth who grew up along these shores and once said, "The real Eastern Shore begins on the south bank of the Choptank River." This is also home to the Chesapeake Bay deadrise boats still used when hand-tonging for oysters or setting and hauling crab traps. Choptank tributaries, such as Harris Creek, Broad Creek and La Trappe Creek, are absolutely beautiful with many first-rate anchorages. Boaters can visit Cambridge or take a side trip on the Tred Avon River to visit Oxford.
