Wellesley Island, NY

Four miles downstream from Clayton, the once-remote Wellesley Island is now easily accessible via the Thousand Island Bridge. Several small shops, a period hotel and the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center all give a flavor of an earlier time reminiscent of Martha’s Vineyard or Chautauqua, NY. There is a sandy beach on the river and wilderness campsites, some of which are only accessible by boat or on foot.
