Great stop for a night if you can't make Lil Diversion (NB) or Angelo Towhead (SB). Great holding in between several of the rock dikes in 10+ft of water at low pool. 100 yards inside of the reds. AIS transponder is nice here, but safe without it.

We anchored two wing dams downstream from the Waterway Guide anchorage marker. Two boats were anchored below the first wing dam. We were about 150' out of the channel (beyond the red bouys). We radioed a passing tow to make sure we were safely out of the channel and he responded that we were just great where we were. Anchored in 15' of water and put out 125' of anchor rode due to the 3 mph current. The current kept us parallel to the shore and out of the channel. Good holding in sand bottom. Anchor came up clean. Passing tows put out a wake that is not too bad, because they are going around a corner. This is not a bad anchorage in a section of the river with few anchoring options.

not a good spot while the river is so low. it could work for one boat maybe in a pinch. very shallow all around the chute so we only put out 50 feet of scope. current kept us in place for the most part but morning wind pushed us on top of our anchor.
on the plus side, it was fun watching barges and the night sky was incredible without light pollution. we had 1 to 2 bars Verizon.

May 18, 2023. Avoid anchoring in Spring time conditions. 3 MPH current and thunderstorms kept us up all night. We reset the anchor twice during the night due to dragging. Being surrounded by shallow rock wing dams was unnerving to say the least.

Anchored with main channel 3.5 kts current and about 6' high above normal pool. Anchored in the middle of the lower end of the chute. Nice spot. Sand bottom.
Warning, #1 wing walls (weirs) in area, waiting to take your rudder away. They are submerged in high water.
Warning #2 in high current, buoys will bob under the surface for a minute+ at a time. We saw three do this. Taking out props is a game those bored buoys love to play.

Anchored here August 2022, low water so the chute behind the island was too shallow. We had more luck with the southern anchorage. Current kept us parallel to shore, even with a light wind and against tow wakes. Downstream tows have no wake. The wake from upstream tows can rock you as they push around the bend. Sand bottom - held very well. At low water there was a nice beach to land dogs.

Anchored in 5ft of water nosed into the chute just up river from the wing dam. Strong current, anchor slipped once, reset in the middle of the night and it held firm. LOTS of night barge traffic, some wake, lots of noise.

Due to high water levels, we anchored in 11 1/2 ft. Strong current, but great holding. Lots of debris bumped by in the night.
